Blarney Castle was our first stop and we spent most of our time there in line to climb to the stone. There were 60 steps but it seemed like160! Smaller and smaller they wound to the top. As the interior large floors were wooden and therefore gone, we could see the main living quarters as we climbed. Smaller bedrooms and kitchen were off the stairs. Narrow windows let the light in.
At the top we walked around the parapet, skipping the kiss 💋 but enjoying the view. The castle ground s were extensive and nicely restored in some areas. The family was obviously wealthy!
Leaving Blarney, we rode through Cork and the countryside to Kinsale. This is a harbor side village and where the Lusitania was sunk. We took our drivers recommendation for a pub lunch of Irish stew and a pint of Schmidt's.
On our return to Cobh where the ship docked, we stopped at St. Coloms cathedral which was beautiful with a dark ceiling. Not sure if it was dirty or planned but it was a nice effect.
We're having issues sending photos but hope to get it sorted out! I'll try again with my phone.
Weather isn't too bad so far. Dale will be happy that more vegan items are offered in the buffet! Stateroom is small but adequate tho we do need to be neat!
Today we dock in Dublin!! On our own taking the train. Tide varies about 20' so the ship must wait for the high tide around noon. Its interesting to see the smaller boats with very, very long lines and docks that float up and down.
Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. Continue to enjoy. I cant wait to hear more and see your photos.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Cork or Blarney; but I love Dublin and would like to return there without a broken ankle sometime. Looking forward to your photos.
ReplyDeleteSounds fun! Mitchell got his applications done. Nice weather here. We are all sick though.
