Belfast

Once docked we met our guide for the day and a mini bus to take us out to the Giants Causeway and other sites along the way. It was a long way out to the coastal location for the causeway which is a huge complex of basalt columns jutting up into the sea. Each is shaped like a hexagon and extends up at various heights. The sea was rough but beautiful as it pounded the shore.

Next we visited Dunlace castle on the shore as well. It is in the process of development and is still being excavated. The complex was beautiful for its time in the 1600's. At the height there were stained glass windows and lavish furnishings.

We made a stop at Dark Hedges, from GOT, on the way back with a tour of Belfast murals to end the day. Because it was foggy our guide skipped the coastline drive which was a disappointment to me.

At last, today we have a sea day after five consecutive days of tour days. This is fun seeing so many interesting places but exhausting to be on the run constantly! We'll try to catch up with things and be ready for the evening festivities.

I'm not doing well with my sketching at all with so little time at each location. George is behind in posting photos too. We have a lot of them but haven't got the system working smoothly. With limited internet time his pc is less effective. I can see we will need to purchase time eventually. His chrome pc is google based and not much can be done off line.

The weather has been chilly and sometimes a bit of rain. The sun peaks through occasionally. Rain is expected in Invergordon where we'll visit Loch Ness and a village. I'm glad for my booties and super warm sweater!!

After Edinburgh it will begin to get warmer but not hot until Lisbon!

  1. I also saw Dark Hedges and enjoyed Belfast. It was rainy and cold when I was there last year in August.
