We have spent a wonderful last couple of days wandering the streets of Prague. Starting in the castle district then to the old town side on Friday we have walked miles on the cobblestone streets. The old buildings are beautiful and they are working hard to restore them all. We left the hotel early and ate breakfast once at our destination. Finding the clock chiming later than expected we found a charming hotel restaurant directly across from the tower and had a lovely meal. When the ringing started we only had to look out the open window to watch the old works. Climbing the tower helped to work off the pastries we had eaten..
The day continued with many steps in the old city. High end stores now occupy some of the buildings and I enjoyed the beautiful clothing displayed. Dior was my favorite.
Finally we had to take a break and put our feet up at the hotel. When Mike called we met him and were off to a restaurant at river's side. We watched the lights come on at the castle hill until sprinkles forced us to move inside to finish our meal. So far only two meals a day and lots of walking, unfortunately between pastries, chocolates, gellato and beer, we won't loose a pound!
Today we shopped a bit then met our tour for Kunta Hora. A 45 min ride after a quick snack left us all sleepy until we arrived at the ossiary. The old vault was decorated with stacked human bones.. They formed garlands, chandelier, and decorative motifs. Very unusual to say the least! Next we visited the old part of town and the cathedral. It had beautiful stained glass windows and dramatic architecture. Marta, our guide, then walked us around the town a bit until it started to rain and we were forced to....yes, into a cafe for more beer!!
Arriving back in Wenceslaus Square again, in the rain, a nearby cafe was quickly chosen for supper. I tried potato dumplings with ham and cabbage. It was a sweet/sour flavour and good.
Now our bags are packed and ready for the move to our riverboat, Poetry II. We join the group at noon for a ride to Nuremburg where it is docked. The trip from hotel to meeting place will be an adventure as we are taking the tram with our luggage.
I am looking forward to a relaxing first day at least!!!!
You make me want to go to Prague.
