A nice surprise

Yesterday I had a nice surprise when I received notice that I had been accepted into the West Michigan Area Show with my mixed media painting called Night Lights. This was the fourth time I entered and thought perhaps I had a better chance with this painting which won a First at FMBAA a couple years ago. (it is on this blog) The venue is very nice and professional at the KIA as they repaint the gallery and do a wonderful job with signage and brochures. There will be a juror's talk on Sunday and then a reception with awards the following Friday. I plan to attend all of it. My friends Judy and Joanne have had this honor before me with a portrait quilt and a beaded crown respectively, they know how exciting it is and I am proud to follow them. In between these events I will be working on Paige's quilt of her T-shirt collection, the grant application and report for FMBAA, preparing for a plein air competition in Battle Creek, digging out genealogy for Buelow cousins and at some point working in the garden. I must download all the Sedona photos and touch up then photograph my paintings from the trip as well. Needless to say I'll be busy as baseball, picnics on the lake and family especially come first. Two grandchildren graduate from high school this June..amazing.

Goodbye Sedona

We have just returned from our last dinner together before Lynne, Dale and I leave for home.  We spent the day visiting petroglyphs, painting to finish up things started this week and ducking raindrops.  Dale toured the studios with a friend who lives here. Cozy Cactus is a great place to stay and we'll miss the wonderful breakfasts served each day. We'll take our paintings home and get a few of the best ready for the show next fall at FMBAA.Thanks again to Neil for planning another great painting trip....We are already looking forward to Charlevoix next year!!

Thursday adventure

Dale,Lynne,Sandi and I drove to Jerome today. It was an old mining town up on the hillside and a popular tourist destination. We enjoyed visiting galleries and studios starting with one in an old high school. We stopped at many jewelry stores and finally just had to buy at least one little thing. Grape was our lunch choice where we had fun watching the chefs preparing the plates. As we made our way back to Cozy Cactus we drove through red rock loop to see more spectacular scenery. We ended the day watching the sun set atop airport mesa.

Ted visited the Grand Canyon and Neil and Mary painted while we went on our adventure.

Thursday

I'm waiting for coffee at 7 and the morning chat with everyone.  Dale is driving Lynne,Sandy and I to Jerome.  Although I am skipping out on painting,it is nice to get out of those boots and aintintg gear.  I plan to take lots of photos and sketch if I want.  The group had decided it didn't warrant a paint day, the galleries are calling us.  We'll see.

Check facebook and Neil Walling to see his beautiful paintings.  I posted mine yesterday on this site....my favorite so far.  It was a good thing I bought more reds...I've needed them all for the red rocks here.

Lynne

Wedesday to Crescent MoonRanchState Park

Neil, Lynne,Ted and I drove to the park to paint the view of Cathedral Rock from the other side of Oak Creek. It was a beautiful walk along the creek to a vast red rock adjacent to a falls area. I had found my spot! The others went up the path a bit more to see but came back to set up near by. It was a lovely day with rushing water, sunshine and hikers making nice comments as they passed by us. Mary went up to the same spot after lunch while the rest of us stayed at cozy to paint or hike. Dale hiked then joined us about cocktail time. We scattered for dinner but Walkings, Dale and I ended up at a bakery of all places and had a nice and inexpensive dinner.

Ted's path

Tuesday in Sedona

b
Today was take ou5 Tuesday here so no lovely breakfast for us! AFew went out and the rest of us scrounged in our fridge to find something. It worked!

Dale was off early to hike while the rest of us drove to Slide Rock State Park to paint. It was a beautiful area of red rock mountains ,pines, and the Oak Creek wandering through. The c
fell over rocks in a flat wide area which was nice to paint while brave visitors jumped in the cold water. Neil painted near the base and got applause when he finished.. I pearched on the higher rocks overlooking the falls and had to move very carefully lest everything fall over the brink. Lugging our gear back up the stairs gave Lynne and I a workout. Smart Mary stayed to paint on high ground.

Later we went to town to check out a few galleries and shops, grab lunch and later dinner. We chatted with several artists and saw a painting g by Jan Sitts who will teach at FMBAA in 2017. The many galleries left to explore should entice us another day.

waffle day

Monday in Sedona

Today we went in several directions...Klunks took a hot air balloon ride that started at 5 am, Dale hiked early then visited a friend and the rest of us had a lovely breakfast then painted with an artist from Michigan at courthouse rock. We came back for lunch and ended up staying here for the rest of the day. All had paintings to work on or new ones to do.

Dinner at a nice local restaurant ended the day nicely. It was a quiet dinner...We are all a bit jet lagged still and we get up very early. Tomorrow more of the same in a different location.

Sunday in Sedona

We spent the day painting in the parkland just over the fence. Everyone did at least two before
we called it and sat down around the fire pit. Bill and Dale went hiking all day at various trails and were happy to sit a while too.
At Mark & Carrie's ( our hosts) suggestion, we drove to Hideaway House for dinner. All was delicious and I have lunch for tomorrow too.

Now that my camera can recharge again I should have some photos tomorrow. Meanwhile Lynne sent several.
